About Bromelain Healing

Bromelain is a nutritional supplement that is derived from the stems of pineapples. Its active properties are proteolytic (autoimmune fighting) and anti-inflammatory enzymes. It is found in capsule form at health food stores and is used to treat a variety of ailments.

  1. Warning

    • Bromelain works as a blood thinner. So this supplement should not be used if you are taking other blood thinning medication or are at risk for bleeding.

    Use for Osteoarthritis

    • Osteoarthritis wears down the cartilage in the joints and is a degenerative disease. Bromelain's anti-inflammatory properties are very helpful at slowing the process of this disease. Take 500 mg three times a day between meals.

    Use for Atherosclerosis

    • Atherosclerosis is a buildup of plaque in the arteries. The biggest health risk of this disease is stroke (and death). This disease is caused by high cholesterol, high blood pressure and smoking. Bromelain's enzymes help to reduce the risk by bringing down the inflammation of causes like high blood pressure.

    Benefits

    • Other ailments that the anti-inflammatory abilities of bromelain can help are rheumatoid arthritis, burns, thrombophlebitis, varicose veins and even sinusitis.

    Effects

    • Because of its blood thinning abilities, bromelain is also used to reduce blood clots and to reduce platelet clumping in the arteries.
