Cosopt is a brand name of the prescription drug combination of dorzolamide and timolol. This drug is prescribed to treat increased pressure in the eye that results from open-angle glaucoma and hypertension of the eye. Dorzolamide is a carbonic anydrase inhibitor and timolol is beta-adrenergic blocking agent. This medication is available in eye drops. Cosopt can cause some side effects. Patients should discuss their side effects with a doctor.

  1. Vision Effects

    • Some Cosopt patients have complained of side effects that impact their vision. According to the Mayo Clinic, some people have noticed blurred vision and sensitivity of the eyes to light while being treated with this drug. Flashes or sparks of light have been reported with this medication. Some users have noticed floating spots in front of their eyes.

    Other Eye Effects

    • According to the Mayo Clinic, some individuals have reported a feeling of something in their eyes and itching of the eyes while on this drug. Some people have noticed redness in the eyes and eyelid linings. Discharge from the eye, eye pain and eyelid pain have occurred. Some people have noticed itching of the eyelids and swelling of the eyelid linings. Burning and stinging of the eyes have occurred while the drug was administered. Tearing and dry eyes are possible. Scales and crusting appeared on the eyelids in some cases.

    Respiratory and Related Effects

    • The use of Cosopt has resulted in some respiratory related side effects. According to the Mayo Clinic, some patients have reported coughing, chest tightness and wheezing. Irregular breathing, shallow breathing and other breathing problems have occurred. Some patients have developed a sore throat, stuffy nose or runny nose.

    Nervous System and Related Effects

    • Some people have experienced strange side effects related to the nervous system after taking Cosopt. According to the Mayo Clinic, some patients have complained of lightheadedness, dizziness or fainting while on this drug. Severe sudden headaches and weakness were reported. Unusual tiredness and depression have occurred.

    Other Effects

    • According to the Mayo Clinic, some users have reported pain in the back, stomach or abdomen. Increased blood pressure, increased urination frequency and pain during urination have occurred with this medicine. Diarrhea, bloody urine and sweating were noticed in some individuals. The skin, lips and fingernails have turned blue in some cases. Chest pain, nausea and vomiting have been reported. Some users have noticed a skin rash, irregular heartbeat or unusual taste.
