Types of Handmade Craft Invitations
Handmade invitations are as special for the recipient to receive as they are for the craft artist to make. Types of handcrafted invitations include a scroll or a scrapbook-style page that your invitees are sure to cherish. You can also create handmade invitations with stamping, engraving and embossing techniques for creations that are both beautiful and personalized.
-
Scroll
-
One of the most unusual handmade invitations you can craft is a scroll. Scrolls are simple to make--print the invitation on parchment paper, attach the paper to dowels with double sided tape, roll the ends together and tie a ribbon around the center. Scroll invitations are appropriate for announcement-type invitations such as an engagement or graduation party.
Stamped
-
Another type of handmade invitation is made with rubber stamps and colorful ink. Most craft stores offer rubber stamps to fit any occasion, or find a wide selection from online retailers. Card stock is the paper of choice for handmade invitations that are stamped due to the thickness and quality of the paper, but you can stamp any kind of paper that you like.

Embossed
-
Embossing powders help you craft beautiful and distinct handmade invitations. The powder adheres to slow drying ink and melts together to form a raised surface when heated with a heat gun. Find embossing powders in a variety of colors and finishes at your craft store. Typically, embossing is used on rubber stamped images.
Scrapbook
-
Scrapbook invitations include one or more photos arranged in a scrapbook style along with journal type entries to express the details of the invitation. Create one such page, then photocopy it to make as many invitations as you need. The personal touch of a handmade scrapbook invitation is not diminished by making photocopies. You can also add memorabilia or collectibles to your scrapbook invitation, as long as they will come through clearly on the photocopies. Or add embellishments to each of the photocopied invitations to enhance the hand-made look.
Engraved
-
Hand-engraved invitations made with copper foil or other thin metals are time consuming, but well worth the effort. You can easily engrave metal foil with a stylus to create personalized invitations. Applying pressure with the blunt-ended tool will indent, or engrave, one side of the metal and emboss the other. Cut around the engraving with sharp household shears or tin snips and attach the metal to a sheet of card stock. The engraved metal can also stand alone as your invitation, but glue ribbon or trim around the perimeter as the cut metal will have sharp edges.
