What Is the GS14 Salary Range?

The federal government has a variety of salary ranges depending upon what your General Schedule (GS) level is. GS, just one of the governments pay systems, has levels ranging from GS1 to GS15. GS1 employees are paid the least and pay increases as your GS level increases, with GS15 employees make the most money.

  1. Base Salary

    • For a GS14, the least amount you will make on a base salary is $83,445; the most you will make is $108,483.

    General Schedule Increase

    • Each year, Congress and the President approve a GS government-wide pay increase. Your GS14 salary usually increases from 2% to 4% at the beginning of January.

    How Step Increases Work

    • Throughout your GS14 career, you get step increases in your pay. You start out as a GS14, Step 1 and can advance as high as a GS14, Step 10. Each year you will increase a step as long as your work performance is satisfactory until you reach a Step 4. Then it will take two years each step to reach Steps 5 through 7. After Step 7, it will take three years each step to reach Steps 8 through 10.

    Geography

    • Depending upon what state you live in, your base pay as a GS14 may increase. Cost of living adjustments are also factored into your salary depending upon how high or low it costs to live in your city.

    Warning

    • This GS14 salary range was effective throughout 2009, but due to yearly pay increases, the range will get higher with each year.
