Magnetic Healing Therapy

Available in a wide range of sizes and strengths, magnetic healing products often embed small, flexible magnets into elastic patches or flexible strips which are worn on affected areas of the body. Recognized throughout history by various cultures, the ability of magnets to trigger healing through a biochemical response has recently become a more widely accepted theory.

  1. Magnets Througout History

    • Several ancient civilizations believed in the power of magnets to assist in healing, including the Egyptians, Greeks, Chinese and ancient Hebrew traditions. Wearing a magnetic amulet across her forehead, Cleopatra believed that magnets preserved her youth. The fifteenth-century physician Paracelsus believed in the ability of magnets to promote self-healing and energize the body. He is said to have had 'visionary insights' regarding the role of magnetism on the body's energy fields.

    The Magnetic Charge

    • Created when sufficient numbers of electrons in a substance become aligned, a magnetic charge can be experienced by virtually all substances. For example, when lava containing iron cools, the natural magnet called lodestone is formed.
Even the brain and heart of the human body contain a magnetic charge which can be measured by scientific equipment. Surrounding the hormone-producing pineal gland, the human brain has tissue clusters which contain a magnetic charge. These naturally-occurring magnetic clusters called magnetite affect the hormone production of the pineal gland; therefore, making this area of the brain responsive to magnetic therapy.

    Magnetic Healing Tips

    • The larger the magnet, the more powerful it is. The more powerful it is, the deeper the magnetic field will be able to penetrate into the body. The closer the magnet is to the skin, the better. Magnetic fields lose their strength when distance is increased. Magnets may be worn for as long as desired, but their effectiveness may wear off as the body adapts to the electromagnetic charge. The two polar opposites which exist in a magnet may be used to treat separate conditions. A magnet's northern polarity has calming and sedative effects, and helps to reduce inflammation. In contrast, its southern polarity is used to promote healing, stimulation, growth and activity.

    How Magnets Accelerate Healing

    • Magnets are said to work through affecting the body's natural magnetic field; thereby triggering energy release and affecting specific physiological mechanisms. Magnets heal by stimulating electromagnetic energy flow through the body's energy centers, called meridians. As magnetic fields may attract calcium ions, magnets may be used to attract these ions to a specific point on the bone which is broken, thereby promoting accelerated healing. The use of magnets also appears to have an effect on the pH level of bodily fluids, which may fall out of sync due to illness.
Magnets help increase blood flow to the area that needs to be healed. This increases the amount of healing oxygen molecules present and also helps flush away toxins from the area.

    Therapeutic Applications

    • Magnets are most commonly used to help relieve pain and discomfort. Other therapeutic uses for magnets include stress reduction, sleep promotion, energy-enhancement and for reducing inflammation. Magnetic energy is also being studied for its role in relieving symptoms of multiple sclerosis and also for its possible applications in restoring spinal cord function after injury.
