Underarm Sweating Problems
Some people sweat profusely, unreasonably. It causes them embarrassment because the sweat can saturate and stain their clothing. Sweat also tends to smell, which will make a person self conscious. You're tried everything, every kind of antiperspirant and deodorant that you can get your hands on, but nothing solves your problem. What's causing this?

Axillary Hyperhidrosis
-
If you are dripping sweat under your arms, this is called axillary hyperhidrosis, according to Hyperhidrosisweb.com. Underarm sweating is a very problematic form of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) because it produces a stench. Some people who have underarm hyperhidrosis also have this condition elsewhere, including on the palms of their hands (palmar hyperhidrosis) or on the soles of their feet (plantar hyperhidrosis).
Over-Stimulation
-
Extreme underarm sweating may occur because the sympathetic nervous system is over-stimulating the sweat glands. If you have this condition, you may be sweating profusely, even if it isn't hot. If you are stressed or anxious, this will exacerbate the problem.

Adolescence
-
If this problem is going to occur, it is likely to first pop up during the adolescent years. If your child is experiencing axillary hyperhidrosis, and is being teased about it, assure him that it is a medical condition and take him to see his pediatrician. Hyperhidrosis may be a hereditary condition.
Social Issues
-
Profuse underarm sweating can actually result in social issues more so than in medical concerns. If you have this problem, it can make you self-conscious as well as make you stink. This causes people to withdraw and not socially interact because they are embarrassed and afraid they will offend someone. If you have underarm sweating problems this may go along with other versions of hyperhidrosis, including hot flashes and night sweats.
Diagnosis
-
To fully and accurately assess your problem, the doctor will determine the rate of sweat production and how it is affecting the individual's qualify of life. A sweat stain around the shoulders of approximately 5 cm is normal. If the sweat stain is 5 to 10 cm this is considered mild axillary hyperhidrosis. If the sweat stains are 10 to 20 cm, this is moderate, and if the stains are over 20 cm, this is considered a severe form of hyperhidrosis.
Compensatory Sweating
-
Ask your physician if there are medications that you can use to prevent this problem. However, know in advance that these medications aren't totally effective. Surgery is an alternative. Sympathetic nerves can be cut to remedy the situation but there are numerous side effects associated with this surgery. If you undergo surgery, compensatory sweating may occur, which means that you will start sweating elsewhere. This can include nighttime sweating, which is called night or sleep hyperhidrosis. Microbial problems and skin problems can result due to the slow healing of wounds and the appearance of scars that occur because of the surgery. In fact, scars that have faded away have been known to reappear.
