- The standard donkey is the size of donkey that you most often see in the world. In some parts of the world the standard donkey is also referred to as a burro. A standard donkey is typically between 40 and 48 inches in height. Although they have been known to get up to as tall as 56 inches in some cases.
- The American spotted donkey is a special breed that was located only in America. Their trade name is American Spotted Ass, which is a registered with the American Council of Spotted Asses. As the name suggests, they are known for having spots on their fur.
- The Cypriot Donkey is known for its very long ears. They have a very different personality trait from the other types of donkeys in that they are generally very friendly. Cypriot Donkeys can be found scattered throughout the Middle East in places such as Palestine, Jordan, Israel and Syria.
- The Poitu Donkey is the rarest breed of all donkey families. They're also the largest breed, growing higher than 16 inches and weighing between 750 to 850 pounds. Surprisingly, even though these creatures are the largest of all donkeys they are rarely used for transporting goods due to their temperament and their overall posture.
- The American Mammoth Donkey was bred for the purpose of carrying heavy loads and enduring long periods of transportation. They can also grow as tall as 58 inches high in most cases.
