What Can I Do With an Associate of Science Degree?

The BLS projects that the demand in this career field will increase by 41 percent in 2016. Median earnings are currently $12.88 per hour.

    Paralegals

    • A paralegal performs preparatory work for lawyers including investigating cases, identifying laws and legal decisions and preparing written reports. The BLS indicates that the growth rate for this profession is 22 percent. Current median earnings are $43,040 per year.

    Health Care

    • The health care sector offers many career opportunities for associate of science degree holders. Registered nurses treat and provide advice to patients, provide to patient's families, perform and interpret medical tests, and maintain patient records. Cardiovascular technologists and technicians perform tests, review patient files and monitor heart rates. Some cardiovascular technologists assist physicians during surgery while others evaluate abnormalities in blood flow. Physical therapist assistants provide treatment that helps patients manage or relieve pain and improve flexibility and mobility. Dental hygienists provide preventative care, teach patients about oral hygiene and clean teeth.

    Environmental Science and Protection Technicians

    • Environmental science and protection technicians perform laboratory tests to monitor the health of the environment. The BLS indicates that the growth rate for this profession is 21 percent by 2016. Current median earnings are $18.31 per hour.
