Carpool Ideas
Carpooling is a good thing. Not only is it good for the environment since it cuts down on the amount of cars on the road, it is also good for the pocketbook for all the parties involved in the pool. In addition, some areas even have a carpool lane, making getting to work easier, quicker and less stressful. Carpooling can also serve as a bonding experience for those involved.

Rotation Carpooling
-
If all parties in the carpool group live a relatively equal distance away from work, rotation carpooling is one of the easiest and fairest methods of carpooling. Rotation carpooling only works when each member of the pool has a car capable of carrying all members in the pool and each member feels comfortable with the others' driving skills. Members can rotate by the day or the week, with each person taking a turn driving the others during their appointed period. There should always be a backup driver in case the appointed driver has to miss one of their days.
Gas Money Carpooling
-
In gas money carpooling, one or a couple of members of the carpool do all the driving, while other members are always picked up. In this method, the driver may have to go out of their way to pick up co-workers, but are compensated monetarily for the wear and tear on their car and for the gas money, making the idea of going out of their way not a problem for the driver.

Errand Days
-
Some people don't want to carpool to work because they want to do errands during lunch. An appointed errand day can alleviate this concern. One day a week, the driver of the carpool can do an errand run for bank deposits, grocery trips or any other sundry tasks such as dry cleaning pick up. This works best when every member of the carpool takes a turn being the driver.
Carpool Activities
-
Increase sociability and make the drive go faster by having a few set activities during the carpool. Have one member read a chapter or two from a book. Play a road trip game such as Geography (players recall geographical locations beginning with the last letter of the last played location) or solve the day's crossword en masse.
Lunch Ideas
-
Inevitably, some members or the pool will have brought their lunches while others will want to go out to buy their lunch. This can put a strain on a carpool group. A daily lunchtime potluck can get around this while starting a fun tradition. Have each member bring a dish to lunch each day with enough servings for all the members of the pool, dietary restrictions considered. If members decide to do a weekly errand day, they can forgo the potluck that day and get their lunches from a restaurant to go.
