Lenovo Vs. HP Desktops

Choosing a new desktop computer can be a confusing task. Two brands that you are likely to run across are Lenovo and Hewlett-Packard. HP has been making computers for a long time and it is one of the largest printer manufacturers in the United States. Lenovo is not as well known. But, the company does offer some quality desktop computers at competitive prices. There are many points to consider when comparing the two brands.

Lenovo Desktop Product Line

Lenovo offers two major product lines of desktops: value line and ideacentre.

The Lenovo value line desktops are divided into two versions, H series and C series. The H series starts at $279 and comes in different models that cost up to $429. The H series offers traditional desktop computers that incorporate a tower case. The C series computers range from $449 to $549. Rather then being a tower PC, the C series is an all-in-one computer featuring a 20-inch display.

The Lenovo ideacentre desktops are divided into three versions: K series, Q series, and A series. The K series computers are traditional tower desktops that range in price from $429 to $469. The Q series is only available in one model that goes for $499. The Q series is considered a multimedia PC for use with home theater systems as well as use as a PC. The Q series is much more compact and considered a mini computer. The A series contains Lenovo's all-in-one PC lineup. They range in price from $67 to $1,399. Notable features include 21.5-inch widescreen display and dual core processors are standard.

HP Desktop Product Line

HP currently offers four major product lines of desktop computers: Pavilion, Pavilion Slimline, Pavilion Elite, and Touch Smart.

The HP Pavilion desktops range in price from $269.99 to $549.99. These desktops feature a traditional tower case and are HP's bottom-end line of desktops.

The HP Pavilion Slimline computers range in price from $289.99 to $429.99 with basic configurations. These desktops are enclosed in a slimmer, more compact case and are HP's mid-range line of desktops.

The HP Pavilion Elite desktops range from $579.99 to $999.99 for basic configurations. These desktops feature a traditional tower case and make up HP's high-end, performance line.

The HP Touch Smart desktops start at $949.99, ranging to $1349.99. These desktops feature an all-in-one case with a built-in monitor.

Looks/Cosmetics

Both HP and Lenovo feature modern looking designs. In terms of style and sleek look, it is all a matter of preference. However, Lenovo's desktops have smoother lines and a more refined appearance. HP's desktops look more traditional. However, they do feature a glossy black finish.

Value and Price

Both Lenovo and HP offer some of the best prices on the PC market. As far as value, they both offer similar specifications with Lenovo being somewhat cheaper. For example, Lenovo all-in-one PCs start at $649 versus HP's all-in-one PCs which start at $950.

Warranty

Warranties comes standard with both brands--one year parts and labor. You can have a two-year warranty on Lenovo desktops for an extra $99 and three years for $159. Two years are available on HP desktops for $139.99, three years for $149.99 and four years for $199.99.
