Menstruation can cause women to feel different and uncomfortable. This can be felt in physical symptoms, such as bloating or cramping, but it can also be a change in the mental state, including mild to moderate anxiety. Luckily, menstrual anxiety can be treated easily by using a few natural methods.

  1. Drinking Herbal Tea

    • Certain herbal teas are highly relaxing and can calm anxiety attacks and soothe stress. One of the best teas for anxiety is chamomile tea, simply made from the petals of chamomile flowers. Chamomile tea can be taken throughout the day, but you should always check with your doctor before taking any new substance, especially if you are pregnant. You can buy chamomile tea at any health food store or natural foods market, and take it as directed on the box.

    Using Flower Essences

    • Flower essences are extracts of certain flowers, barks and plant blends that are combined in a specific way that will sooth different mood issues, depending on how they are mixed. One of the most popular flower essence brands is Bach, which can be purchased at any health food store. Because each remedy is specifically geared for specific emotional conditions, it is important to read the indications on each flower essence bottle. Take up to four drops of the flower essence every 10 minutes until your anxiety is relieved.

    Using Kava Kava

    • Kava Kava is a plant whose roots can be used to eliminate sudden and acute anxiety attacks, and it can be taken in both supplement or tincture form. Kava Kava is extremely powerful and should only be taken as directed on the bottle or box. There have been a few incidences of liver damage from excessive use of Kava Kava, so check with your doctor before using and only use it short-term for acute anxiety.

    Hot Soak

    • Water has the magnificent ability to soothe the mind and relax the muscles. During the menstrual cycle, using water can also help relieve menstrual cramping and muscle aches. It is easy to use water to ease anxiety and cramping, simply fill a bathtub with warm to hot water, and soak in the water for at least 15 minutes. You can add a few drops of lavender essential oil and play soft music to make the bath extra relaxing.

    Meditation

    • Routinely practicing meditation can help train your mind to relax and to stop thinking of stressful thoughts. To meditate, sit in a comfortable position, and take in long, deep breathes. Try to allow your mind to be free from all thoughts, and if a thought does come in, simply allow the thought to slip away. Stay in this state for at least 5 minutes, and try to meditate for longer amounts of time at each session.
