About Herbal Cleansing

The human body is under attack from the negative effects of the water, food, alcohol and prescription drugs we consume every day. In addition, household cleaners, pesticides and even the air we breathe are full of chemicals that can produce harmful effects in the human body. Herbal cleansing is used to detoxify and remove these threats.

    1. History

      • The "Kahun Medical Papyrus" from 1,900 B.C. is the oldest translated documentation of commonly used herbs for healing and cleansing and includes honey, juniper, cumin, senna, thyme, frankincense and colocynth. Today, the World Health Organization estimates that approximately four billion people use some form of herbal medicine.

      Function

      • Herbal cleansing prevents the buildup and aids in the elimination of toxins, preventing associated health problems such as abdominal and pelvic pain, irritable bowel syndrome and constipation. Herbal cleansing is a natural way to purify the body, increase energy levels and aid in the assimilation of essential nutrients.

      Types

      • Herbal cleansing products are made from wild or farm-grown plants. For instance, milk thistle is often used to promote a healthy liver, as are soy lecithin, turmeric root and burdock root. Dandelion root is often used for kidney health and olive leaf extract is an antiviral and also boosts the immune system.

      Time Frame

      • It is generally recommended that herbal cleansing be done several times a year, but the body can give better clues as to when it is needed. People who work as painters, landscapers or beauticians have a higher exposure to toxins and may wish to perform more frequent herbal cleansing.

      Effects

      • Herbal cleansing improves overall health by increasing energy levels, lowering blood pressure, improving memory and normalizing cholesterol levels. It also aids in reducing joint pain and muscle soreness, as well as alleviating allergy symptoms helping control weight.

      Warning

      • Herbal cleansing consists of natural ingredients and is generally considered safe. However, consult with a physician prior to beginning any herbal treatment, especially if you have health problems or are taking any medication. In addition, pregnant or nursing mothers should not consume herbal cleanses.
