Air travel can be fun, exciting and the perfect beginning to a great vacation. It can also be a real hassle if you arrive at airport without the proper identification or if you are charged expensive baggage fees because you did not know your airline’s rules. The following Sun Country Airlines rules will help make your trip a little easier.
Carry-On Baggage Rules
Sun Country Airlines allows you to take one small bag and one personal item with you on the plane. Your carry-on bag must be no more than a total of 48 inches when you add the bag’s length, width and height together, and weigh no more than 35 pounds. Your personal item, which can be a purse, briefcase, laptop or backpack, must fit under the seat in front of you.
Checked Baggage Rules
If you are flying in coach, you will be charged a fee of $15 for your first bag and $25 for your second bag. Each bag must be no more than a total of 62 inches when you add the bag’s length, width and height together, and weigh no more than 50 pounds. You will be charged these baggage fees both on your outbound flight and on your return flight. You are exempt from these baggage fees if you are flying on a first-class fare. If you upgrade from coach to first class at the airport, you will be charged the coach baggage fees.
Sun Country Airlines also charges a fee of $75 per bag for luggage that exceeds the size and weight rules, and a $75 excess baggage fee for each additional bag if you check more than two bags. These fees apply to both first-class and coach passengers.
Sun Country Airlines recommends you be at the airport at least 60 minutes prior to your flight for domestic travel and 90 minutes prior to departure for international travel. All domestic passengers 18 or older must have a valid federal or state government-issued photo identification. Acceptable identification cards include a valid driver's license, a valid passport or a valid military identification card. All passengers traveling internationally, including children and infants, must have a valid passport.
Traveling With Children
Children under 2 years old do not need a ticket on Sun Country Airlines and may travel on your lap for free. If you are traveling with an infant, you must check in at the airport. Also, the airline’s rules stipulate that there cannot be more infants in your group than there are adults. Children less than 8 days old are not allowed to fly on Sun Country Airlines.
Children 2 years of age or older must have a ticket and be in their own seat during takeoff and landing. If you plan to bring a car seat on the plane, make sure it is one that is recommended by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for air travel. For a list of the types of car seats recommended by the FAA, visit FAA.org.
Children from 5 to 12 years old may travel alone if you purchase Sun Country Airlines' unaccompanied minor service. There is a fee of $75 per family, per flight segment for the service. Children under the age of 5 cannot participate in the service and must travel with an adult. Children over the age of 13 may travel alone without participating in the unaccompanied minor program.
