Metoprolol tablets are dispensed in 25 to 100 mg doses (which depends on the your condition). Metoprolol tablets need to be taken exactly as prescribed. It is important that you do not skip a dose, but if you forget to take your Metoprolol tablet, take it as soon as you remember. Do not double up on Metoprolol, as this may cause an overdose. Symptoms of overdose include dizziness, weakness, uneven or slow heartbeat, shortness of breath, bluish-colored fingernails or fainting.

Serious side effects of Metoprolol can occur and include slow, uneven heartbeat or lightheadedness. Fainting and shortness of breath are also a serious side effect of Metoprolol.
