Crash Tests
-
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration conducts government crash tests in the United States. A "5-Star" safety rating means that a car is four times less likely to cause serious injury to its occupants during a crash than a vehicle that receives only one star. The rating system was developed by crashing test vehicles head-on at 35 mph, and from the side at 38.5 mph. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, an independent, nonprofit organization, performs separate vehicle crash tests. The following cars excelled in the government tests by the NHTSA.
