7th Grade Science Activities
Seventh-grade science is a great subject to teach and can be fun for students and teachers. The best way to teach it is not to sit and read, but see, do, sing about and taste it. The more students are involved in the learning process, the more likely they are to remember and use the information.

Challenge students by making dull vocabulary lessons into puzzles. Word searches can be made so that the word is hidden in the puzzle and a clue is written at the bottom of the puzzle. Custom bingo games are great for vocabulary or test reviews. Demonstrate concepts as much as possible. Janice VanCleave is among the best science writers of short, easy learning activities. Group together several demonstrations for science stations or a full class period. VanCleave also has written chemistry, physics and science fair books with information and demonstration ideas.
Science Songs
-
Sing and dance your way into learning about science. Using music as part of the lessons is a great way to get the kids to concentrate while having a great time. Learn about mitosis than dancing the Mitosis Square Dance or the Scientific Method than singing a song based on the tune of "Dixie." Your students will remember these song lyrics and lessons for years to come. You can even have them write their own songs.

Computer Science
-
Search for information on the Internet. Internet scavenger hunts challenge the learner to find information themselves while providing safe, appropriate websites to search. The Discovery Channel website provides science news, short videos and many games.
Science Videos
-
What are students more likely to remember--reading about a volcano or watching a National Geographic video that shows and explains the process, types and violence of a volcano? Using videos is a great way to make an impact plus you can slip in the extra skill of note taking by having students outline the information shown. Schlessinger Media Videos also have a great series that demonstrate physical science concepts for middle-school students.
Cooking In Science
-
Involve food in your lessons where you can. Learn the difference between a mixture and a solution by making Chex mix for the mixture and lemonade for the solution. Excavate a cookie filled with nuts, chips and dried fruits where students discover fossils and clues using a key code. Make a giant round sugar cookie, use frosting cytoplasm and candies for cell parts. Taste fungi by hydrating and stir-frying dried mushrooms. Taste cheese and yogurt for examples of good bacteria.
