Many businesses continue to advertise in their local region, but web advertising helps the business build a broader readership and opportunity for bringing in buyers beyond their coverage area. These duties are handled in-house or outsourced to a company that specializes in Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

    • For a media outlet, the advertising director is a professional with extensive experience in client building, management and media research. Some of the duties of an advertising director include developing and implementing a sales plan that will create revenue, tracking sales performance and preparing budgets. Most important, the advertising director must oversee a group of ad sales representatives. As manager, they must conduct performance reviews, facilitate regular staff meetings and supervise work flow and distribution of work.

    • After all the sales are complete, the end result is created by the individuals in creative services. The individuals include graphic designers, Web ad designers, video producers, and advertising copy writers and copy editors. Most of these individuals have bachelor's degrees journalism, marketing or art. These individuals use their talents to develop marketing material for businesses. Professionals in this area are found in advertising agencies, publishers, marketing firms, corporate communications, newspapers and television stations.
