Natural Foods to Help Detox Your Body

If you are looking for the best ways to "detoxify" your body but do not want to resort to using an overly restrictive commercial plan, a homemade detox can be a compromise. A homemade detox will provide you with some of the benefits of a full-blown detox without the drawbacks or hunger pangs associated with many popular plans. What follows are some sample foods that you can include in your diet to help get your detox started.

  1. Leafy Greens

    • Fibrous and leafy green vegetables are the ideal food on which to base your detox plan. Fiber helps the body to naturally cleanse itself by promoting healthy digestion Green vegetables, in addition to being good sources of fiber, are loaded with vitamins and minerals to keep your body healthy without overloading on the calories. Consume at least four servings daily.

    Seeds and Nuts

    • Walnuts, almonds, flax, pumpkin, cedar and sunflower are some sample seed and nut types that you can include in your detox diet. These items are all high in fiber and easily digestible, so the end result will be a complete cleaning of your digestive system without placing it under undue stress. Snack on these items throughout the day.

    Fruits

    • Fruit, especially organic fruits, are the ideal food to supplement your detox efforts. Like vegetables, fruits are rich in fiber, vitamin and minerals. And unlike vegetables, fruits are slightly more calorically dense, providing your body with sustainable energy to get through a day without the drawbacks and toxicity associated with processed foods. Four of five servings of fruit a day should provide sufficient benefit.

    Garlic

    • Garlic is the perfect spice to use liberally while on your detox plan. Garlic has the advantage of stimulating the liver, causing it to produce additional enzymes to disperse toxicity within the digestive system and throughout the body.

    Green Tea

    • Replacing your coffee with green tea can assist in your detox efforts. Green tea is a thermogenic (fat burner), which stimulates the metabolism while providing a hefty dose of antioxidants to cleanse the body. A cup of green tea in the morning and another prior to any exercise sessions will help your body rid itself of toxic fat deposits.
