Carol Vorderman's Detox Diet
Detox plans generally fall into two primary categories--nutritionally reasonable and generally bizarre. While some detox plans take a moderate approach, recommending restriction of unhealthy foods while retraining your body to subsist on a more natural diet, other plans force you to live for weeks on end with nothing more than lemonade and syrup. Fortunately, Carol Vorderman's Detox falls squarely into the former "healthy" category, and can thus be recommended without reservation.

Detox Plans
-
A detox plan is a specialized type of diet that attempts to rid your body of chemical impurities through adherence to an often heavily restricted menu. The general duration of a detox diet can vary widely, with some of the plans being as short as two or three days and other extending for a month or more. No matter the length, all detox plans have the same goal in mind--a happier, healthier you.
Vorderman's Detox
-
Vorderman's detox plan falls on the somewhat lengthy side of the scale--following the core plan will take 28 days. Vorderman is somewhat of a celebrity in Europe, and although she is not a nutritionist nor a dietary specialist, her detox plan is still one of the more sane variants on the whole "detox" theme.
Rules
-
While on the diet, you should refrain from consuming the following items: processed foods, tea, dairy, coffee, sugar, bread, alcohol, pasta, rice and carbonated beverages. You should base your food intake around at least five servings of fruit and vegetables per day, along with consumption of 1.5 to 2 gallons of water. This is it; there are no magic potions to prepare or incantations to recite--just a healthy, natural diet.
Benefits
-
Even if you do not believe in the concept of "detoxing" your body of environmental toxins, you will still benefit from the plan through weight loss. Replacing all the unhealthy food items in your diet with more natural choices should bring on a fairly noticeable shift in body composition. Other purported benefits from the diet include increased immunological function and an improved sense of well-being.
Considerations
-
If followed as scheduled, Vorderman's plan is a good way to jumpstart your weight-loss efforts while relearning the value of healthy foods. The weight loss experienced from the diet should provide a fairly strong incentive to continue down the road to health, bolstering your confidence and providing you with the wherewithal to come that much closer to your ideal physique.
