Types of Facial Spas
Understanding the different types of spas and the treatments they offer can save you a lot of time. Facials can run the gamut from a basic clean-up to alpha-hydroxy to collagen to galvanic facials. Other facial treatments can require the presence of a doctor. Does this Spark an idea?

Day Spas offer personal care treatments on a daily basis and are usually by appointment. Most day spas offer many different kinds of facials for every different kind of skin--from acne-prone skin to mature skin to everything in-between.
Medi-spas offer personal facial care treatments that require a doctor's supervision. Some of these treatments include microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing or Botox injections.
Destination Spas' main function is to help you in making better lifestyle choices. While there may be a number of different facials offered here, some destination spas may have a doctor who can oversee medical facial treatments.
Hotel or Resort Spas are located in a hotel or resort and offer the same kinds of services as a day spa.

Benefits
-
Day Spa: Day spas are everywhere and their facial treatments are a good way to relieve stress. They are a convenient way to slow down and pamper yourself when you don't have much time. Many day spas offer lunchtime "pick-me-up" facials that can carry you through a stressful day.
Medi-spas: One major benefit is that these spas can cure cosmetic problems that regular day spas can't. Facial hair? Acne? Wrinkles? Medical spas can literally cure (thanks to modern science) what normal day spas can only alleviate.
Destination Spa: Offers a plethora of facials (including some medical, depending on the spa). The whole experience is about pampering yourself and making healthy lifestyle choices--including how you treat your skin. The facial experience is an inside/outside experience.
Hotel or Resort Spa: Hotel spas offer the same kinds of facials as day spas--and the more prestigious hotels and resorts often have some of the best facial treatments and estheticians around.
Added Benefits
-
Day Spas: Many take walk-ins.
Medi-spas: Their facilities are often as nice (if not nicer) as a day spa. You can often get regular day spa treatments as well as more intense doctor-required treatments.
Destination Spas: It is the purpose of the destination spa to make the entire package a pampering event; therefore, every element of your stay--from room to cuisine to the actual spa treatments--will be part of the destination spa experience. The length of stay is usually two nights or more--depending on the spa.
Hotel or Resort Spa: An advantage--or disadvantage--is that the temptation to get off the program is close by. Spa guests can mingle with other guests who are there for other reasons. Alcohol, high-calorie foods and smoke are always nearby.
Warning
-
Many establishments today want to cash in on the spa trend. A gym may offer massages, but they have no business calling themselves a "day spa". Be wary of businesses that are not a part of the Day Spa Association (DSA).
