The Best Moisturizing Cleanser for Extremely Dry Skin

Extremely dry skin can be difficult to treat and even more difficult to clean. Dry skin often is coupled with sensitive skin. Regular cleansers can cause irritation and further dryness, while additional moisturizers do not purify the pores. This can cause bacteria and dead skin cell buildup, resulting in a dull and unhealthy looking face. Cleansers made from natural ingredients are the best option because certain ingredients hydrate as they cleanse and there is no risk of hidden chemicals or preservatives to cause adverse reactions. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Olive Oil

    • Olive oil moisturizes the skin because it contains oleic acid, which makes the skin more permeable to hold in moisture. Olive oil has been used as a cleansing agent for centuries. The ancient Greeks even bathed in it to keep their skin pure and hydrated. Make an olive oil cleanser by pumping a small amount of mild liquid soap, about the size of a dime, into your palm and combine it with an equal amount of extra virgin olive oil. Massage into the skin and rinse with lukewarm water.

Extra virgin olive oil is best because it is the least processed and the most pure.

    Honey

    • Honey is another moisturizing cleanser because it is a natural humectant, meaning it attracts and holds in moisture. To create a honey cleanser, combine a small amount of mild liquid soap, about the size of a dime, with the same amount of honey. Massage into wet skin and rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Honey also can be used as a moisturizing facial mask. Apply pure honey to the skin and rinse the face after 25 minutes.

    Yogurt

    • Yogurt is a beneficial cleanser for dry skin because it has antibacterial properties that rid the skin of impurities, and the lactic acid smooths and softens as it purifies. To use yogurt to cleanse the skin, massage it into the face, allow it to soak into the pores for about five minutes and rinse clean with lukewarm water.

Always use plain yogurt to avoid irritation from unnecessary chemicals, and use whole milk yogurt to get the full moisturizing benefits.

    Avocado Oil

    • Avocado oil is full of vitamins such as A, E and several B vitamins to nourish and moisturize the skin. It also contains protein to rebuild dry skin that has become thin and worn down due to lack of moisture. Pour a small amount of mild liquid soap, about the size of a dime, into your palm, and combine it with the same amount of avocado oil. Massage into the skin and rinse with lukewarm water.

Avocado oil can be purchased at health food stores.

    Aloe Vera

    • Aloe vera gel calms and hydrates dry skin. It heals damage from dryness, and when added to a mild soap, cleanses the skin while moisturizing. Combine a small amount of mild liquid soap, about the size of a dime, with the same amount of aloe vera gel. Massage into the skin and rinse with lukewarm water.
