Bar Ideas for Your Home
You can customize an interior or exterior bar for your home with materials like stone veneer, copper or leather. If a more traditional wooden-style bar will work best for your décor, consider the aromatic beauty of cedar or the warmth of oak with a shadowbox display for memorabilia that's sure to be a conversation starter. Does this Spark an idea?

Stacked Stone Bar
-
Stacked stone will create a contemporary feel for your indoor or backyard bar. You can cover the frame with real stone or manufactured stone veneer that is much easier to apply. Manufactured stone veneer panels have flat backs that you can attach to the face and sides of a plywood frame with waterproof adhesive. Stacked stone will not work for the bar top, but you can cover the top with tile to match the stone or add a granite slab to maintain the contemporary design.
Metal Bar
-
Cover your bar frame with copper or stainless-steel sheeting around the base and granite tiles on the top for a distinctive design statement. For an outdoor bar, you'll need to cover the frame with marine plywood before you add the sheeting. You can create a studded pattern with decorative copper nails or add stainless-steel rivets to complement the metal sheeting.

Rustic Cedar Bar
-
Cover your bar frame with strips of cedar for indoor or outdoor entertaining. You could run 6-inch cedar boards horizontally or vertically to cover the face and sides of the frame and join 2-inch cedar strips together to form the top of your bar. Cedar is naturally beautiful, so it's not necessary to stain your bar, though you should apply a coat of polyurethane to help protect it from moisture. You may wish to add more layers of polyurethane on the top than on the base to protect it from spills and stains.
Mid-Century Modern Bar
-
Create a mid-century-modern style bar by covering the frame in white leather or vinyl. Roll a padded edge around the front perimeter of the bar and add upholstered buttons to accent the bar base. You can find retro-style bar stools from online retailers or look for the genuine articles in antique stores around the country to complete the look.
Sports Bar
-
Design a bar in your home for the sports enthusiast, with a rich wood-stained base and a bar top made like a shadowbox for memorabilia. Raised wooden edges around the perimeter of the top will allow room to place three dimensional collectibles. Cover the top with a thick sheet of glass that rests on the raised edges so your display will be visible.
