According to the American Psychological Association, less than 5% of people with a BA in psychology have a career in psychology. Most careers in psychology require further education and for those not planning to pursue their education past a Bachelor' Degree, positions in the field of psychology can be limited.

    Human Resources

  1. Positions in human resources are very common for psychology graduates. This position allows the graduate to work with people in a way that builds on the skills they learned in completion of their degree. Those in human resources may work with conflict resolution on the workplace which is a skill developed in psychology courses. In addition those in human resources are often responsible for hiring, firing and training as well which can also utilize skills learned from psychology.
  2. Counselor

  3. An entry level position as a counselor is one of the few positions available to psychology graduates in their field. Working as a counselor is an especially great choice for those who entered psychology to help people. This type of position allows them to work in a mental health office working with patients. This experience can be beneficial if they choose to further their education. Positions as counselors are hard to come by and most psychology graduates will not have this opportunity.
  4. Teacher

  5. A number of psychology graduates choose to complete their credential and pursue teaching as a career. This does not necessarily mean that they will be teaching psychology, and this is often not the case. Instead, psychology graduates use the skills they acquired from psychology to benefit their teaching skills and communication with their students. The skills learned during the completion of their degree usually serve to help psychology majors be better teachers.
  6. Social Worker

  7. Although many positions as a social worker require the completion of a Master's Degree, not all do. Working as a social worker gives a psychology graduate an opportunity to work in a related field. Social workers usually have a specific area of focus such children or substance abuse. They are able to work with people and help people resolve personal problems. In addition, social workers may have to work with people with mental illness on a regular basis which is where their psychology degree comes in handy.
  8. Business and Sales

  9. Many top business careers only require a Bachelor's Degree. Those with a BA in psychology may choose to enter the business field when psychology positions are unavailable. Psychology graduates tend to choose sales and marketing as business careers. Additional business classes can help a psychology major function better in the business world, but the interpersonal skills learned during the completion of their degree can also come in handy.
