Horror Games for Nintendo DS
Nintendo has a longstanding reputation for kid-friendly and family-themed games, but horror-game fans shouldn't ignore Nintendo, not even the portable DS system. There are a few horror video games--all of them released by third parties--available for play on the DS hand-held console. Fans of the horror game genre can find next editions or remakes of some of their favorite series. Be forewarned that a number of these games carry an M rating.

'Dementium: The Ward'
-
This is a first-person game taking place inside a hospital invaded by zombies and other monsters. The players are originally armed only with a flashlight but can obtain other weapons throughout the game. The game involves exploring the hospital, fighting the undead monsters that appear at random and solving puzzles like keypad-locked doors. The ultimate goal is to discover the mystery of Redmoor Hospital, and who exactly is the accused "murderer" lurking its halls.
'Resident Evil: Deadly Silence'
-
The Resident Evil series makes its DS debut with "Deadly Silence," a remake of the original Playstation game. This version keeps much from the original game, with protagonists Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine trapped in an old mansion separated from their strike force teammates, where they must battle gruesome undead creatures just to survive and find their lost comrades.

'Touch the Dead'
-
"Touch the Dead" is a game bearing a striking resemblance to the "House of the Dead" game released years ago by Sega, only using the DS touch screen instead of an actual light gun. The first-person shooter involves a convict trying to escape prison who is attacked by countless zombies along the way. All the player has to do in the game is shoot those zombies; the computer even controls the character's movements.
'Theresia'
-
In this game, a young girl finds herself trapped in a underground maze with no memory and being haunted by a strange woman with a baby. Players actually play two different characters who must escape the labyrinth by searching for clues through flashbacks and journal entries. The atmosphere is dark and foreboding, and there are many deadly traps you can spring just from moving an object the wrong way.
'Obscure 2'
-
The Obscure series comes to the DS in the form of "Obscure 2," also known as "Obscure: The Aftermath." In this sequel to the original game, the surviving characters are now in college and find their campus infested with strange flowers that become monstrous. Players select a team of one character they control and another the computer controls; there are six characters to choose from, all with different abilities.
