Book Decorating Idea

Your love of books is a wonderful way to decorate every room of your home. Books used as decoration communicate that the homeowners are part of an educated gentry who prefer the adventure to be found within the pages of a good book rather than on cable TV. If you love books, you can use them as décor throughout the house. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Decorating with Books

    • When using books as decoration, moderation and organization are key. Don't let your book décor get mistaken as book clutter. Keep stacks of books neat and rolls of books on shelves orderly and dust free. Use objects of art in displays of books, to break up the visual line and add additional interest. On a shelf, stack some books horizontally with spines outward on shelves with books lined up vertically. With thoughtful placement of books, you can bring an elevated character pedigree to any home's décor.

    Library

    • If you're lucky enough to have a room you can dedicate as a library, you'll need lots of books to store on shelves. You'll want to place books in your library where they are both accessible and attractive displayed. Organizing books by genre is common in a formal library with mysteries, biographies, new fiction, and the classics grouped together. However when books are used to decorate even in a library setting, try segregating the books by color to create bold color statements in the room.

    Bathrooms

    • Bathrooms are one of the busiest reading rooms in the house. Accommodate the bathroom reader in your home with a select of quick read books with short chapters of one or two pages or old poetry or picture books.

Magazine racks are often found in bathrooms even guest bathrooms. The ideal is not for a guest to linger in the room so long as to need to read but to add a bit of color that a magazine cover might provide. Keep issues current just in case.

    Bedrooms

    • Books used in the bedroom can have utilitarian use beyond just being quiet entertainment. A small table lamp can be raised in prominence by perching it on a pedestal of two or three stacked books. This can improve the lamp's usefulness as a reading light as well as cast more light into the room by its height elevation.

    Living Room

    • Decorate the unused space under a piano stool or coffee table with stacks of books. Depending on the style of the room, you might want to select older books with linen covers, gold spines, and raised titles with a traditionally décor or in a contemporary space, large format picture books with interesting dust jackets can be used.
