Seldom if ever seen, the absentee business owner has mastered the skill of managing from a distance. Frequently, an absentee business owner follows the business plan to the letter, owns multiple business ventures or has inherited an established business.
Business owners who are retired are classified as absentee. The retired business owner may own a franchise operation that is a turnkey venture. Franchise business ventures are usually extensively structured, with policies and procedures manuals that provide for every contingency. With so much organization and detailed instruction, franchise owners simply go by the book.
