Skype is a multimedia program that consumes large amounts of system RAM; therefore it is important to make sure that you have the adequate system resources to install and run it. Skype is only available on Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems, attempting to install it on any other operating system will cause errors. Computers should also have a minimum of 256MB of RAM and at least 1GHz of processor speed to install and run it. A fast broadband Internet connection speed (at least 384Kbps) is also ideal. If your computer does not meet these system requirements, you are likely to run into installation problems.

An older version of Skype can cause installation problems if you are attempting to install a newer version. If the older version became corrupt from system changes, infections by viruses it can cause system errors which as a result interfere with the setup of a newer version. In Windows computers especially, a corrupt version of Skype can lead to registry errors and when the registry suffers errors, so does Skype as well as other applications on your computer.

A firewall is a computer program that protects your computer from network intrusions and potentially dangerous programs that threaten computer performance. If the firewall on your computer is either set too high or set to block certain applications, you will not only run into Skpye installation problems, but additional connection problems if you do manage to install it on your computer. Some Firewall programs may mistakenly block Skype from your computer and display a #1102 error.

If your computer meets the system requirements to install Skype and you are still running into installation problems, you should try updating your operating system (e.g Service Packs) with the latest updates from your operating systems website. Check the Firewall settings on your computer and add Skype on the "Allow" list to prevent it from being blocked. If the errors in installing seem to be related tio the registry, it is advisable to run a registry cleaner such as CCleaner (see Resources) to remove files that are interfering with the installation.
