General Travel Requirements

While there is no travel certificate required to enter Ireland, citizens from most countries have to furnish a passport to enter Ireland and Northern Ireland. No necessary vaccines are required before entry into Ireland.
Countries Requiring Passport

Travelers from Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the United States will need to furnish a passport for their legal entry into in Ireland. The passport will entitle them to a three-month stay in Ireland and a six-month stay in Northern Ireland. There is no additional documentation necessary to enter Northern Ireland. Students on exchange programs can fill out a visa waiver that allows them to stay in the country until their program is complete.

Citizens of the European Union do not need to furnish additional travel documents for entering Ireland; however, they do need to furnish a document which proves their status as an E.U. citizen. Unlike the travelers from North America and down under, European Union citizens have no constraints on their length of stay. Either a passport or a national identity card can serve as an acceptable form of identification.
UK Citizens

Citizens of the UK do not need to furnish a passport to enter Ireland; however, they need to show a form of valid identification like their European counterparts.
Working Visas

Those planning to work during their stay in Ireland need to apply for working visas, regardless of whether their stay is under the three-month limit.
