A job working with animals can be a satisfying way to interact with nature while at the same time earning ann income. There are many different kinds of jobs that involve working with animals. Some jobs may involve caring for the medical needs of animals or teaching them to perform for an audience. Others may involve scientific research or interacting with pet owners.

Veterinarians care for the medical needs of animals. In order to become a vet one must complete a four-year undergraduate degree and then graduate from veterinary school. A vet may work with a wide variety of animals. Some vets work in rural areas and specialize in working with farm animals. Others may work primarily in a suburban setting and treat dogs, cats and birds. A veterinarian may perform surgery on a zebra, spay a dog or set a ferret's broken leg.

Keepers work in zoos and aquariums. They help care for exotic animals as well as teach some animals to perform tricks such as balancing a ball on their nose. Keepers also participate in scientific research about animal behavior. They may investigate how bonds are formed between mating pairs or how to best care for an animal with a rare disease.
