Foods Containing Vitamin B17

B-17, a naturally occurring nutrient, has been linked to health advantages including protection against cancer cells. Due to its reactivity with certain enzymes in the body, supplements containing it have been banned by the Food and Drug Administration. Because of its bitter flavor, many farmers have crossbred this nutrient from commonly consumed foods; however, it's still available in some less commonly eaten foods.

  1. B17 Advantages

    • Laetrile, or B-17, was removed from the market in America in the 1970s by the FDA. In fact, it considered this vitamin to be so toxic, physicians cannot administer it to patients. According to Dr. Janet Star, nutritionist and alternative health physician: "According to research from years ago, provided by nutritionists and medical scientists, vitamin B17 is a natural cyanide-containing compound that gives up its cyanide content only in the presence of a particular enzyme group called beta glucosidase or glucuronidase. Miraculously, this enzyme group is found almost exclusively in cancer cells. If found elsewhere in the body, it is accompanied by greater quantities of another enzyme, rhodanese, which has the ability to disable the cyanide and convert it into completely harmless substances. Cancer tissues do not have this protecting enzyme." In other words, B-17 has the ability to identify and kill cancer cells and only cancer cells because of an enzyme that's secreted.

    Fruits

    • Certain fruits have been determined to contain high amounts of B-17 naturally. It's always advisable to utilize pure-bred, non-hybridized organic fruits, as some farmers have bred B-17 out of their crops. Topping the list of fruits with naturally occurring B-17 includes wild blackberries, wild crab apples, Swedish cranberries and elderberries.

    Seeds

    • Various seeds that are no longer consumed in the typical American diet are also high in vitamin B-17. Included in this list are apple, apricot, cherry, nectarine, peach, pear, prune and plum seeds. These seeds contain the highest amounts of B-17, as farmers have not hybridized the nutrients out because they assume Americans will not consume them.

    Beans

    • Fava and mung beans have the highest amounts of B-17 in the legume family. These beans can typically be found in fresh, frozen and dried varieties in health food stores. Organic beans contain the highest vitamin content for these beans.

    Supplements

    • Although concentrated supplements are not available in the United States, they can be ordered online or from international distributors. Recommended websites include www.apricotpower.com, www.sunorganic.com, and http://www.apricot-seeds.com/. Supplements can be directly purchased in Mexico and Canada as well, as apricot kernel supplements have not been blacklisted in either of those countries. A list of clinics that offer B-17 treatments as part of a cancer protocol can be located at http://www.cancure.org/laetrile.htm.
