What Are the Different Kinds of Amp Energy Drinks?
AMP Energy is an energy drink distributed by PepsiCo. It was developed in 2001 as Mountain Dew's addition to the energy drink market. Since its launch, AMP has expanded to include several varieties and flavors, and has become one of the most popular energy drinks. Most varieties are available in 16 oz. and 24 oz. cans. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Original
-
The original AMP flavor is lemon-lime, modeled after Mountain Dew. Because AMP is so closely related to Mountain Dew, the two drinks taste and smell very similar to one another. AMP contains B vitamins, taurine, ginseng and guarana, in addition to caffeine and sugar. The caffeine content of AMP is higher than that of most sodas and on par with other leading energy drinks.
Other Flavors
-
After the initial success of the original AMP flavor, several additional varieties were introduced. The original formula acts as the base for these added flavors and any additional ingredients that are unique to the individual varieties.
AMP Overdrive contains cherry flavor and additional yerba maté. AMP Relaunch has an added orange flavor and electrolytes. AMP Elevate contains mixed berry flavors and L-theanine. AMP Traction has an added grape flavor in addition to maltodextrin and B-ribose.

Tea and Lemonade
-
AMP has also recently released a line of tea and lemonade inspired energy drinks. The tea varieties come in green tea and black tea. The green tea AMP (also called AMP Defend) contains antioxidants and beta-alanine, with flavors of green tea and yuzu. The black tea variety (alternately known as AMP Rebuild) contains beta-alanine and B-vitamins. The flavor is black tea with lemon.
AMP Lightning is the brand's lemonade drink. It contains B-vitamins and L-carnitine in addition to the AMP base.
Limited Edition
-
AMP Tradin' Paint is the brand's current limited edition variety. The can design is based on the AMP-sponsored Dale Earnhardt Jr. number 88 car (NASCAR). The flavors of this variety are lime, orange and berry. In addition to these three flavors, AMP Tradin' Paint also includes more caffeine than the original. Ginseng and maltodextrin are also ingredients.
Sugar Free
-
The sugar-free variety of AMP is modeled after its original flavor. The main difference is that this variety contains no sugar and no carbohydrates. It includes the original's mix of ginseng, guarana, taurine and caffeine. Sugar Free AMP is marketed as a high energy, low-calorie beverage.
Energy Shot
-
AMP Energy Shot is a concentrated version of the original drink. The Energy Shot comes in a 2 oz. bottle (or "shot") and includes jackfruit citrus flavor. This variety of AMP is marketed as a vitamin supplement.
