Say thank you to a volunteer with a bear wearing medical equipment.

If you're looking to thank a special person for volunteering at your local hospital or helping you with the care of yourself or loved one, one great way to do that is a properly thought-out gift. Although it may seem a bit intimidating to try and figure out what to give the person, there are several options that you can choose from that go with the theme of hospital volunteer service.

  1. Teddy Bear or Doll

    • At your local toy store, you can find a selection of teddy bears or dolls dressed as doctors, nurses or patients. Purchase this gift and wrap it up in hospital-themed wrapping paper. Make sure the doll or teddy bear includes such extras as a doctor's bag, stethoscope and scrubs or a nurse's hat.

    Doctor's Bag

    • Great for a tongue-in-cheek gift, go to your local toy store and purchase a toy doctor's bag such as the ones children use to play with. Make sure your plastic kit includes all of the essentials like a toy light to shine in the ears, faux shots, bandages and instruments meant to be used to explore the ears, nose and throat.

    Cookies

    • Make sugar cookies for your volunteer. Use shaped cookie cutters that you can turn into hospital-themed items, such as a purse that can become a doctor's bag with a little frosting, or a coat that can be a lab coat with a little bit of white frosting. Wrap each cookie individually with clear paper after the frosting dries, and tie it off with a nice bow.

    Balloons, Candy and Flowers

    • A traditional gift is a great place to start for your favorite hospital volunteer. Purchase balloons and flowers in her favorite colors or do the traditional red and white for the "Candy Stripers." You can even purchase some peppermint candy as a nod to her position. If you plan to present the gift at the hospital, confirm the hospital's restrictions on balloons, as many facilities prohibit latex ballons.

    T-Shirt

    • Make your own T-shirt using a website like spreadshirt.com or cafepress. You can design it simply by using the tools on the website, draw a picture and scan it or make a design in photo editing software. You can also make a wide variety of products with the same design such as mugs, clocks and tote bags.
