Diet Patch for Women

The Miracle Diet Patch for women is a patch that goes directly onto the skin. The diet patch is intended to be worn for 24 hours to control appetite and cravings throughout the course of the day. The patch is supposed to increase your metabolism so that you burn more calories on a daily basis. Some patches also claim they decrease appetite. It is important to note, however, that many of the claims that diet patch companies state have not been confirmed by third parties, as of August 2009, and still need to be researched further to determine their efficacy.

  1. Diet Patch Ingredients

    • A number of different diet patches are on the market, each with its own set of ingredients. Some use iodine, which is intended to speed up the metabolism via the thyroid. Other patches might use 5-HTP, a serotonin precursor that is meant to decrease food cravings and appetite. Other typical ingredients are similar to those included in typical weight loss pills and supplements: guarana, L-carnitine, flax seed oil, green tea, and zinc citrate.

    Fucus Vesiculosus in Diet Patches

    • Fucus vesiculosus, also known as baldderwrack and brown seaweed, is another active ingredient used in some diet patches. Essentially, it carries a high concentration of iodine, which we know is used by the thyroid to produce the hormones that speed up the metabolism. By supplementing iodine to the thyroid via fucus vesivulosus, the diet patch can in fact effectively speed up the metabolism to aid weight gain. However, this might only actually occur if your extra weight is caused by a slower metabolism, and not just from overeating or a sedentary lifestyle.

    Hoodia Diet Patches

    • Hoodia is a popular diet aid that shows up in pills and drinks, and now in the form of diet patches. Swirling around this weight loss supplement are legends of ancient tribes in Africa that used hoodia to stave off starvation. In actuality, there is a lack of medical evidence that hoodia is useful for long term weight loss. It may affect the part of the brain that controls appetite and satisfaction, but these claims need to be researched further before their efficacy is proven. Therefore, hoodia patches may or may not be effective.

    Effects of the Diet Patch

    • Depending on which diet patch you use, the desired effects of the diet patch are to decrease appetite and increase metabolism to lose weight. Guarana is neither a food nor a drug, and therefore the claims of its weight loss properties do not have to be confirmed by the Food and Drug Administration. This means that while ingredients like guarana are known to have some weight loss properties, the effects may be only slight and are not the wide ranging "miracle" solution that many of these patches claim to be. Additionally, more research on weight loss patches is necessary before their results are proven.

Where To Find the Diet Patch

    • You can find online retailers for the various types of diet patches on the market.

Many of the patch companies have their own websites selling the patches, or you can find them on diet and vitamin websites. Be wary though, since many of these websites make broad claims about the results of the patches, which are still unfounded at this point in time.
