What Are the Contents of Gorilla Glue?
One of the strongest polyurethane adhesives in the glue industry, Gorilla Glue was named by Popular Science as one of the "Best of What's New" products in 2006. It only contains a few ingredients, but they are toxic.
-
Function
-
Gorilla Glue claims to be a glue "for the toughest jobs on planet Earth." It bonds metal, stone, ceramic and, most effectively, wood. After application, it dries within two hours and adheres for years.
Water
-
While Gorilla Glue claims to be 100% waterproof, it actually needs a little water before it can work properly. Whatever item(s) you are gluing should be dampened prior to Gorilla Glue's application.
-
Prepolymized MDI
-
Prepolymized MDI makes for one of the strongest adhesives on the market, but it is toxic. It is especially toxic before it dries, and should be kept away from children and animals at all times. This is an ingredient in Gorilla Glue that will do great damage to your eyes if you do not flush with water immediately upon contact. Seek medical attention if you get Gorilla Glue in your eyes.
Diphenylmethane-4.4 Diisocyanate
-
Diphenylmethane-4.4 diisocyanate is the other ingredient in Gorilla Glue, and it is also toxic. If inhaled in great quantities, it is possible for diphenylmethane-4.4 diisocyanate to invoke hypersensitivity pneumonitis, asthma and inflammatory upper respiratory tract diseases.
Warnings
-
When using Gorilla Glue, do not let it come into contact with your skin.
It will not wash out of clothes.
If Gorilla Glue is swallowed, it may cause gastrointestinal blockage.
Never put anything with Gorilla Glue into a microwave, and do not expose it to extreme heat.
Do not use Gorilla Glue on objects that come into contact with your eyes or mouth (e.g., cups, binoculars, eating utensils).
