Rules for a Social Club

Having a social club can be an interesting and exciting time. However, it is necessary to set rules for your social club so that everyone who participates will be able to enjoy it. Your rules should be completed before anyone joins your social club. The rules should be concentrated into rules about who can join, the ages of people in the club, the location of members, the activities about the club and the future of the club. You should also have a section in your rules about any membership fees that must be paid.

  1. Who Can Join and Fees.

    • Almost all social clubs have rules about who can join. These rules should include whether this is a group for males or females, if there are income or social limits to the members and if members need to be involved in certain activities. You might want to include information about rules regarding who can join depending on what they do---such as that members must be lawyers, or must be wives of doctors. Most social groups have rules about members, but some have more lax rules than others.

Once you have determined who can join, think about the fees that must be paid. Make sure that you include this in your membership rules. If you do have fees that need to be paid, check with the IRS to make sure that you are handling fees correctly according to what your club is and how it is set up.

    Ages

    • Many social clubs have rules regarding the ages of members. The most prominent rule is that members must be over 21. However, some clubs have rules that state members must be between 25 and 35, or older than 55. The age limits you impose in your rules will reflect the type of group you are creating.

    Location of Members

    • Because social groups are groups that meet often, you might have rules about the locations of members. Some social groups require members to live in a town or neighborhood. Others are more lax as long as members can get to meetings.

    Activities

    • Many social groups include lists of activities they will do in their rules. This is especially important if your social club works with a charity or another organization as well. You might also want to include information about the various activities you will do during the fiscal year.

    Future of the Club

    • In many sets of rules for social clubs, there are statements about the future of the group. These might be mission statements, where groups talk about where they see the group advancing to. They also might be simple rules about membership, such as that each person must commit to two years of membership.
