Interesting Careers in Science

Scientists study the world and the world can be surprisingly intricate. Really curious people can put their curiosity to good use by studying the natural world, contributing to growing bodies of research and inventing useful technology. However, many really interesting science careers are hard to get. Those who want to get into a really interesting science career should start studying their science of interest as early as possible.

  1. Volcanologist

    • Volcanologists study volcanoes and lava flow. These specialists track volcanoes and often survey the volcano from helicopter in order to maintain safety. GPS technology can track when rocks deform within the volcano. Volcano study can help prevent loss of life and destruction by predicting volcano activity. Those who want to study volcanoes are recommended to get a background in geology and mathematics.

    Artificial Intelligence

    • As robotics technology improves, markets for robots will grow and so will the demand for those who develop robots. Artificial intelligence research is research with the intent of developing robots that can think for themselves. Universities, companies and NASA all work on developing artificially intelligent robots and computer programs. Those wanting to work in artificial intelligence are recommended to get backgrounds in computer science, electrical engineering and biology-related fields, since many robots are inspired by living organisms.

    Astronomer

    • Astronomers observe the solar system and try to learn more about planets, stars and potential life on other planets. Astronomers teach classes on astronomy and use telescopes to study recently discovered astronomy phenomenon further. Those wishing to become astronomers are recommended to learn as much as possible about astronomy, find opportunities to use telescopes to stargaze and get to know university astronomers, with the hope of getting in on research projects.

    Paleontologist

    • Paleontologists study fossils, tracks, footprints, pollen, spores, prehistoric humans, decay, and preservation. Paleontologists also speculate over life before recorded history. Becoming a paleontologist is difficult, so aspiring paleontologists are recommended to get strong educations in math, science, biology, geology, chemistry and physics. Paleontologists are also recommended to learn as many foreign languages as possible, as they might be traveling to foreign countries that don't speak English.

    Marine Biology

    • Marine biologists study ocean life. The ocean is so vast and deep that there is no telling how many more species are underwater to explore. Marine biologists study how marine life forms interact with each other and the environment and also how their biological structure works.

    Entomologist

    • Entomologists study bugs. There are a large variety of bugs that have unique behavior, reproduction and physical structures. Entomologists often study one type of bug. For instance, archanologists study spiders. Since spiders are mostly active at night, archanologists often must spend all night watching spiders interact with their environment.

    Computer Scientist

    • Computer scientists are always inventing new technology that can be used to improve the quality of life and productivity. Computer scientists work to develop faster computers, new software programs and better storage. Computer programmers write codes for programs. Computer scientists should learn all they can about computers and get a degree in computer science.
