DSL Requirements for Netzero

In addition to its traditional dial-up Internet service, NetZero also offers customers a broadband DSL option unlike the dial-up service NetZero DSL is always on, allowing you to be instantly connected to the Internet when you need it. The DSL service also comes bundled with a pop-up blocker to block unwanted ads, Norton Virus Protection, and an email address. If you're interested in using NetZero's DSL service, there are just a few requirements.

  1. Operating System

    • Netzero DSK requires you have a PC running Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista or Mac running OS X.

    Processor

    • For computers running Windows 98, you need to have at least a 266MHz Intel Pentium processor. For Windows 2000 and XP machines, you must have a processor with a speed of 300MHz or faster, and for Vista computers you must have a processor speed of 800MHz or faster. Macintosh users must have a G3 processor 333MHz or faster. Find out what your processor speed is by going to the control panel on your PC and looking at the system details, or by clicking the Apple icon on the top left of your Mac's home screen.

    Hard Drive Space

    • Windows 98 machines need to have 125MB of free hard drive space. Windows 2000 and XP machines need 150MB of free hard drive space, Windows Vista needs 15 GB of free hard drive space, and OS X requires 12MB of free hard drive space in order to run NetZero DSL.

    CD/DVD Drive

    • All Windows computers need a CD or DVD drive in order to use NetZero DSL. Included in your welcome packet will be a CD with software that needs to be installed onto your computer from the disc before using the service. Macintosh computers do not need a drive.

    Free Phone Jack

    • NetZero DSL service is provided through the traditional phone line in your home. If you do not have a free phone jack in your home, NetZero will provide you with a splitter that will allow you to connect your computer to the same phone jack you are currently using for your traditional phone.
