Treatments for a Chronic Cough
A chronic cough can become quite a problem. Not only is it annoying for both you and the people around you, it can become very painful. There are a number of treatments to help suppress a bad cough, and believe it or not many of the ingredients might already be in your house.

Garlic Cough Syrup
-
Garlic is one of nature's little miracles. One little clove packs a big punch, and when combined with a few other things, garlic can be used as a cough fighter. To prepare properly, mince a half pound of garlic and place it into a quart jar. Completely cover the garlic with honey and place the lid on the jar. If you do not have a lid, place saran wrap over the jar and tighten with a rubber band. Place the mixture into the refrigerator for at least 24 hours and when you wake up in the morning take a teaspoon of the garlic concoction to suppress your cough.
Ginger
-
Ginger has healing enzymes that can get rid of even the most annoying of coughs. Ginger can be purchased in a few different forms, but for this application sliced or whole ginger is preferable. When you feel the urge to cough, toss a few pieces of sliced ginger into your mouth and chew it. As the ginger is crushed in your mouth, more and more of its healing enzymes are released, and your cough will be suppressed.

Herbal Tea
-
Herbal tea has been used for centuries by the Chinese to treat everything from the flu to digestive problems. It can also be used to treat a bad cough. There are many different types of herbal teas, many of which can help a cough, but the best known herbal tea for a cough is chamomile. To prepare properly, pour hot water into a teacup along with the chamomile. Allow the tea to steep for about one minute. Mix in a teaspoon of honey and a splash of lemon juice.
Steam
-
A very easy treatment for a cough is steam. When inhaling the steam, it gets absorbed into the airways and soothes the irritated throat and lungs. To accomplish this you can either take a hot bath or shower, or you can pour hot water into a bowl and breathe in the steam.
Warm Milk
-
Warm milk not only helps the coughing reflex, but also relaxes the body and muscles enough to allow you to get to sleep much faster. Before bed, warm up a cup of milk either in the microwave or on the stovetop and pour the milk into a heat resistant mug. Mix in a tablespoon of honey and drink slowly.
