Sources of Vitamin H

Vitamin H, also known as biotin, is an essential vitamin. Biotin is part of the B-vitamin family. B-vitamins are needed for energy and stress relief among many other things. Vitamin H provides nourishment needed for healthy skin, hair and nails. Biotin has been used to treat cradle cap. Cradle cap is a dry patch of skin on an infants head. In addition, vitamin H also aids the body in metabolizing fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, which are all needed for energy. There are actually many sources of vitamin H.

  1. Brewer's Yeast

    • Brewer's yeast is a great source of vitamin H and other B-vitamins. One spoonful of brewer's yeast per day is all you need to get your needed daily dose of biotin. Brewer's yeast can be consumed plain or it can be added to protein shakes or other beverages. The mix of nutrients found in brewer's yeast can even help a breastfeeding mother produce more milk.

    Egg Yolks

    • Another great source of vitamin H is egg yolks. The yolks are also loaded with protein and other nutrients. Don't consume egg yolks raw due to the danger of salmonella poisoning. You can boil or scramble the eggs. Cooking the egg yolks will not destroy the valuable nutrients contained inside.

    Beans

    • Beans are a great source of vitamin H and protein. If you are a vegetarian, eating beans is a great way to get the protein your body needs. Eating raw beans is the best option because raw beans (un cooked) contain higher levels of nutrients. Beans that contain the highest levels of biotin are kidney beans and garbonzo beans.

    Raw Dark Chocolate

    • Raw dark chocolate that has not been processed contains very high sources of vitamins A, C, E and vitamin H, just to name a few. Raw dark chocolate with a very high cocoa content is best because it contains all the live enzymes and nutrients. When chocolate is heated and processed, it loses many nutrients through the manufacturing process.

    Almonds

    • Almonds are an excellent source of vitamin H. Almonds can be eaten raw and combined with many other foods such as salads, chicken or other dishes. You can even buy raw almond milk. In addition, almonds have calcium and other nutrients in them.

    Bananas

    • Bananas are another great source of biotin. Bananas make great breakfast food, and they blend well with other fruits when combined into a shake. Eating one banana per day will give your body a good dose of vitamin H.
