Rockabilly Hairstyles for Girls
Rockabilly style has a fun, flirty appeal. It takes a sassy attitude to pull off this look. Here are some styles that are worn by rockabilly girls, and a general idea of how they get them. Does this Spark an idea?

Origins
-
Rockabilly girls today have the same sexy, tough appeal of the musical genre's pioneers like Wanda Jackson, who some consider Elvis's female counterpart. Though rockabilly emerged as a sped-up version of hillbilly, or country music in the 1930s, young fans are rocking the style in big cities and small towns around the world today.
Overview of Styles
-
Rockabilly hairstyles range from glamorous pin curls to hair pulled back in a bandanna. An evening out might mean painstakingly done pin curls, pulled up into an elaborate style. Everyday looks can include hair pulled back in a bandanna or cute bangs and kitten ears.

Bangs
-
Bangs are an essential part of the rockabilly look for many girls. They are achieved by cutting the hair from temple to temple, with some forehead showing just above the eyebrows. Maintaining them is important; getting rid of stray hairs gives a smooth look. Wavier or frizzier hair is tamed with a smoothing product. Positioning a straightening iron as close to the head as possible, and extending it outward, then just under at the ends, gives rockabilly girls that cute fringe that just screams "rockabilly."
Bandana Do
-
This look is achieved by pulling the hair back into a ponytail and pinning it into curls against the crown, ending up with a small mass of curls high at the top of the back of the head. The bandanna is twisted into a roll and tied just behind the hairline at the top of the head, rather than at the nape of the neck like most bandanna styles.
Pinup Style
-
Many rockabilly girls wear the pinup look for an evening out. This glamorous style is best achieved with long, smooth hair. It involves sectioning off the hair into three or five large areas, and twisting each piece back and towards the head. The end result is a large roll of hair pinned to each side of the head, and at the forehead. The back of the hair is either left long, or pinned up at the nape of the neck like the rest of the hair. A large amount of maximum-hold hairspray will seal everything into place.
Finishing the Look
-
These hairstyles will look fun and feminine on their own, but makeup and clothes will finish off the look. Halter tops and vintage dresses from the 1940s and 1950s, worn with just the right heels, really make the style work. Eyeliner and pouting lips are essential. Rockabilly and "the natural look" aren't two phrases you'll usually hear in the same sentence. While tattoos are optional, they definitely help identify a rockabilly girl.
