Many women lose weight by decreasing food intake. An supplementary approach is to eat metabolism-boosting foods to make your body work faster and harder to work off extra calories. While most metabolism boosters will help both men and women, there are several foods that specifically help women.

    Soup

  1. A Penn State University study chronicled in Fitness Tips for Life showed that women who had soup as a snack before lunch ate an average of 100 calories a day less than women who ate other snacks. Soup with protein in it is a particularly good metabolism booster and appetite suppressant.
  2. Chilies

  3. The Hot Latin Diet, featured in Women's World magazine and chronicled on Calorie Lab, incorporates a large amount of chilies. Chilies are said to speed the metabolism and suppress appetite, helping the dieter to take in less calories while enjoying a flavorful meal.
  4. Garlic

  5. Garlic is another ingredient featured in the Hot Latin Diet. Calorie Lab says that garlic blocks fat and sugar absorption, helping dieters lose as much as 6.5 pounds per week while enjoying highly savory and tasty food.
  6. Apples and Pears

  7. A study done by the State University of Rio de Janeiro and featured on Fitness Tips for Life concluded that women who eat three small apples or pears daily lose more weight than women who don't include fruit in their diet. This is because fruit boosts the metabolism and satisfies sugar cravings, so dieters are less likely to reach for sugary sweets.
  8. Seafood

  9. The Hot Latin Diet advises women to incorporate seafood into every lunch, as this makes them much less likely to over-indulge at dinner. Studies have shown that certain acids in fish help people feel fuller and more satisfied.
