Sunbeam Vs. KitchenAid Stand Mixers

Save

Stand mixers are countertop appliances that allow you to easily mix your breads, cakes, cookies and other recipes. The two major brands are Sunbeam and KitchenAid. Comparing the models from the two companies can help make your buying decision easier.

Features

  • KitchenAid stand mixers typically operate on more power, between 300 and 600 watts. Sunbeam stand mixers have less power, which is reflected in their cheaper price. Most models use less than 300 watts. The bowl sizes are similar and many of the models from both companies use a three- to six-quart bowl. Many of the KitchenAid stand mixers have 10 variable speed controls. The Sunbeam stand mixers have as few as five speed controls and as many as 12. You can disconnect the top of some of the Sunbeam mixers so you have a hand mixer. KitchenAid mixers do not have that option.

Inclusions

  • The stand mixers will each come with a set of beaters to use with the device. Sunbeam stand mixers like the MixMaster may just come with one set of chrome beaters. The Heritage Series models often come with heavy duty beaters, whisks and dough hooks. The KitchenAid mixers have similar items in the box as the Heritage Series, but are manufactured from burnished metal.

Price

  • The main difference between Sunbeam and KitchenAid stand mixers are the price. KitchenAid stand mixers are much more expensive than the versions from Sunbeam. The most basic Sunbeam mixers, such as the MixMaster and the 2372, can both be found for under $50. The most expensive versions from the Heritage Series are priced at about $200. The classic KitchenAid versions start at about $200. Custom and specialty KitchenAid stand mixers can cost as much as $600.

Accessories

  • KichenAid has more accessories than the Sunbeam stand mixers. including a pasta making kit, pasta rollers, grinders, slicers, shredders and strainers. You can also purchase replacement parts for your KitchenAid stand mixer, including bowls, whisks and beaters. Accessories for Sunbeam hand mixers include dough hooks, replacement bowls, wire whisks and standard beaters.

Availability

  • You can buy Sunbeam stand mixers at numerous home stores and large chain retailers. Wal-Mart, Target and Amazon all sell Sunbeam mixers. Since KitchenAid mixers are more expensive, you can find them more easily through department stores like Macy's and JC Penney's.
