Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) surgery is a vision correction surgery that reshapes the cornea. LASIK eye surgery can be used to treat farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism. Glaucoma is an eye disorder stemming from increased pressure in the eye. This can eventually damage the optic nerve, and can impair vision by damaging the ability of the eye to send visual information to the brain. Because there are no outward signs of glaucoma, many do not know they suffer from it until they begin to experience loss of vision.
Different types of glaucoma require different types of surgery. Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) is for open-angle glaucoma and uses a laser to improve drainage and decrease optical pressure. Laser Peripheral Iridotomy (LPI) is used to treat closed-angle glaucoma, narrow-angled glaucoma and pigmentary glaucoma, and requires making a hole in the iris to decrease optical pressure. Depending on the procedure, surgery to treat glaucoma can cost upwards of $3,000.
Corneal Transplant

The cornea is the central lens of the eye that focuses and refracts light. If the cornea is damaged, it can be replaced via surgery, but only by using a replacement cornea from a donor. Luckily, corneal transplant is one of the most widely conducted and successful types of transplants done each year. Because of the nature of the procedure and the need for real corneal tissue for the transplant, the average cost is closer to $7,500 to $10,000.
