Electric-powered guns need a battery similar to ones used for remote-controlled cars. The battery powers a piston that creates the air pressure that propels the BB. These are used in fully automatic rifles and machine guns. - Airsoft guns generally use a plastic pellet, known as a BB, that is 6 mm in diameter, which is larger than the traditional ammunition of BB guns. Airsoft guns can also load and shoot and load small paint balls so they can be used in paintball competitions as well.
- Airsoft guns are designed to be used for recreation; training for military, target shooting, and hunting purposes; and display. They also are often used in movies instead of real guns with blanks. The airsoft guns are cheaper and the muzzle flash is digitally added to the film.
- All airsoft guns have a bright orange tip on the muzzle. This is to make sure everyone knows it is not a real gun. This is for the safety of the person with the gun and those around them. It is illegal to remove the orange tip. Also, you must be 18 years old to purchase an airsoft gun.
