About Low Cost Health Insurance in New York State
Most states have a health insurance program for low income individuals and families that do not qualify for Medicaid. The program in the state of New York is called Family Health Plus and is available for adults between the ages of 19 and 64. Family Health Plus is only available to residents of New York who are also United States citizens or belong to a certain immigration category. This means that a family of four can have a monthly income of $2,757 or a weekly income of $636.

There is no cost for individuals and families to join the Family Health Plus program. Once enrolled in the program there are no deductibles that need to be paid. Some costs may need to be paid for certain types of services. Costs typically consist of a co-payment that can range from $22 to $50. Services subject to a co-payment may include prescription drugs as well as dental care. A co-payment may also apply for inpatient and outpatient hospital care.
