Ladybug Decor Ideas
Ladybugs have long been the cherished allies of farmers. As National Geographic's website explains, "ladybugs voraciously consume plant-eating insects, such as aphids, and in doing so they help to protect crops." Children however, are attracted to ladybugs due to their bright colors, association with making wishes come true, and their screen alter egos in films like Francis in "A Bug's Life." A charming room can be created based around a ladybug theme.

A Ladybug Theme
-
Note that a ladybug theme should incorporate graphic colors, natural elements and joy. A ladybug's colors are obvious natural design standouts. However, also consider a ladybug's natural habitat when creating your design. The ladybug flies through blue skies, and settles on tree branches and flowers of all kinds. It is a creature of the air and the earth. The ladybug is also a symbol of happiness, innocence and wishes come true.
Paint Effects
-
Keep in mind that a ladybug themed room must include at least two dominant colors: one representing a ladybug's body color and one representing her spots. Traditional ladybug colors include a body color of either dark tangerine orange or tomato red. Spots, naturally, are black. However, for a child's room creativity can easily come into play. Perhaps your child would prefer a purple and green, turquoise and white, or pink and black scheme, A ladybug could also have spots of many colors creating an unlimited palette. If you would like to work with red and black, remember that these two colors are difficult to paint with and unforgiving. All corrections will require you to apply primer to the surface to cover the colors.
Window Treatments
-
Understand that window treatments should be light and airy reflecting a ladybug's flying habitat. Sheers and other light fabrics able to blow in the breeze will give motion and delicacy to your design. Delicate drapes will contrast well with your otherwise strong graphic color elements. If privacy is needed, consider a bamboo or other natural wood shade. Mimic a place a ladybug would be likely to land.
Special Touches
-
Know that a room with a ladybug motif could also incorporate other thematic flourishes, including painting walls to mimic a field of flowers, trees or blue sky. Use stencils or custom vinyl letters (see R esources below for a link), to add your child's name, or a saying like, "Ladybug, ladybug, fly away home" to the walls.
Fabrics and Accessories
-
Add to the custom appeal of your ladybug room by seeking out fabrics that suit the theme like those with bugs, plants, flowers or polka dots. Ladybug accessories can also be added to your room including stuffed animals, posters and figurines. Stores like The Ladybug Shop feature a wide variety of ladybug trinkets and decor (see Resources below).
