A summary statement is often confused with an objective statement on a resume. An objective is simply a brief statement about the type of position you seek; whereas, a summary statement is more typically used to highlight skills you bring to the table for a career change. While you don't always need a summary statement, it provides a useful segue to capture the attention of the hiring manager.
Summary Statement Details
Summary statements include from three to five sentences. You should note personal attributes, technical skills and work experiences that contribute to a desired career. Essentially, you expand an objective statement to concisely show why you should get an interview. An aspiring retail manager could state "Accomplished assistant retail manager with three years of experience leading top chain location. Proven leadership abilities and initiative to succeed in management role."
