Fashion designers make clothes for men, women and children, as well as accessories such as hats, handbags and shoes. She also studies international trends in fashion and keeps in contact with sales, manufacturing and corporate departments. She may also work in film, television or theater, or be contracted by individual clients to design custom creations. In addition, she has to know how to purchase quality fabrics at prices that are within her company's budget.
