When implementing a low-carbohydrate diet, the body typically does not receive all the daily nutrients and minerals it needs to function properly. This, of course, is due to the fact that many of the omitted foods in the low-carb diet have essential vitamins that are not being ingested. A simple multi-vitamin would most likely do the trick, but there are a few key vitamins and minerals that should not be missed.

  1. Vitamin C

    • When on a low-carb diet, a Vitamin C supplement - typically found in a majority of the fruits and veggies not being touched - is essential. It helps to absorb all that iron being received into the body via the copious amounts of red meat being ingested on the diet. It also works to keep blood vessels healthy so they may spread the nutrients throughout the system.

    Vitamin E

    • Vitamin E is often found in the green vegetables that the low-carb diet has forgone. This particular vitamin works to keep skin beautiful and younger looking, while maintaining its moisture to prevent dryness and wrinkles. The vitamin can also aid in the prevention of heart disease.

    Fiber

    • It goes without saying, that if something goes into the body, something must come out. On a low-carb diet plan, fiber is not on the menu. Fiber gears up the body to remove excess waste and unwanted toxins that build up in the intestines. A fiber supplement is necessary to allow this natural process to occur before the harmful bacteria leaks back inside the system.

    Folate/Folic Acid

    • Commonly found in grains and cereals, Folate, or Folic Acid, is responsible for the production of new, healthy body cells right down to the formation of DNA. These new cells are the cornerstone of a strong body and vital to longevity. Folate can also work to help prevent heart ailments and disease.

    Vitamin B Complex

    • Although a low-carb lifestyle will garner weight loss and a better overall appearance, energy loss may be experienced. Vitamin B complex helps to restore, and create, energy throughout the body. This jump starts the system and protects it from malfunction and disorder. Vitamin B complex boasts a number of positives including better digestion, nervous system regulation and healthier, better looking skin.
