What Jobs Require an Associate in Arts Degree?

An associate of arts degree is an intermediate degree for students who have completed two years of college with a 2.0 average or better and haven't focused in on a particular major but have taken a myriad of classes for college credit. It is the least notable on the list of secondary academic degrees offered in the United States and Canada; yet, there are still a large number of jobs that are available with an associate degree. The associate of arts degree, in particular, can lead to jobs in the liberal arts, communications and science fields.

  1. Nurse

    • Registered Nurse

One of the most popular jobs for someone with an associate degree is as a nurse. The pay range is between $20 and $30 an hour, and nursing can become a lifelong career that allows you to thrive. With additional information come many opportunities for advancement and specialization.

    Graphic Designer

    • Graphic Designer

Though you'll start off on the low-end of the pay scale, a graphic designer allows creative types with an associate degree to have steady work, build a portfolio and thrive within their job. Like many jobs, the graphic design profession allows for growth if you have talent at both the art of graphic design and promoting yourself and your abilities.

    Executive Secretary or Administrative Assistant

    • Executive Assistant

Associate degrees also lead to jobs as assistants in a variety of fields. Just about any major company that may need an administrative assistant around the office would hire someone with an associate of arts degree, as would an executive who may need a work-related or personal assistant. There is room to move in this field as more experience leads to work assisting more powerful executives, and the pay rate will fluctuate accordingly.

    Teacher's Aide

    • Teacher's Aide

With an associate degree you can also become a teacher's aide in a public school district. You will be helping teachers in a variety of capacities and administrators around the school. The pay range is on the very low side, and there is little room for growth, unless you're interested in training for your teaching certificate. However, this is a steady job and most likely secure.

    Culinary Arts

    • Culinary Arts Graduates

An associate of arts degree will also secure you a spot in culinary school and can help you get a job at a fine restaurant while you take culinary classes, based on past experience or where you are willing to start in the kitchen. There is plenty of room for growth here, and although the pay starts low, cooking in a kitchen is a skill that takes a certain skill set and can lead to great things down the line, no pun intended.
